A10 Networks' IDsentrie Helps Silicon Valley Web Hosting Automate Operations And Reclaim Up To 20 Work Hours Per Month
Silicon Valley Web Hosting (SVWH), based in Santa Clara, CA, is a privately-owned Internet Service Provider that serves 1000+ customers worldwide. It sustains 5 Gbps of Internet traffic across 320 Sun and Linux servers spread across three data centers. With its customer base and Web traffic growing, SVWH needed a simpler way to centralize all account provisioning, management, and inventory across its 320 servers. The company also wanted to improve visibility and security on its network to fight spam, viruses and other threats. For instance, the process for tracing security compromises, identifying spam events, neutralizing "spam bots" and fighting Denial-of-Service (DOS) attacks was extremely time consuming, requiring that SVWH network operations manager Michael Montgomery log into three different host systems to manually correlate the necessary information to find the offending host. Now, with the A10 Networks' IDsentrie Smart Identity Management system in place, these tasks are automated and managing the network is greatly simplified. Montgomery estimates that he has reclaimed at least 20 work hours per month that were once spent on provisioning customer accounts individually across SVWH's 320 production servers. Montgomery also states that the ability to quickly track critical firewall events back to the originating host using IDsentrie has simplified his troubleshooting and forensic activities significantly.
